शुरुआत में ईमेल भेजने के लिए 250 शब्दों का ही इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता था इसलिए जापान के एक इंजीनियर ने कम शब्दों की समस्या को सुलझाने के लिए साल 1999 में इमोजी को जन्म दिया।
